In the dynamic world of civil engineering, nurturing industry growth isn’t just a goal; it’s a shared responsibility. That’s why we’re proud participants in TxDOT’s DRIVE mentor-mentee program, where collaboration and partnership take center stage to support smaller, emerging businesses.
Administered by the Professional Engineering Procurement Division (PEPS), the DRIVE program aims to further TxDOT’s diverse business participation goals. It is designed to encourage and support DBE firms through voluntary partnerships with mentoring firms. Firms are appropriately paired based on their strengths and needs.
In 2023, BGE served as the mentoring firm for InfraTECH Engineers and Innovators, LLC, a Houston-based consulting firm holding certifications as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE), Historically Underutilized Business (HUB), and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE).
“Successful mentor-mentee interactions are based on mutual respect, open communication, and a willingness to learn from each other,” said Matt Brannen, PE, Managing Director of Transportation for BGE Inc., during a joined video interview with Syed Haq, Executive Vice President of infraTECH. “Many of us have been a small firm at some point, and many people and companies were there to help us grow. We feel our responsibility is to pay it forward and help the transportation industry grow.”
