BGE Designs Gas Main Relocation to Support Georgetown’s Growing Infrastructure

As part of a City of Georgetown capital improvement project, BGE was brought in to design the relocation of Atmos Energy’s gas distribution main along Wolf Ranch Parkway. The work involved designing about 6,800 feet of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipeline to support the city’s infrastructure upgrades and future growth.

To keep everything aligned with city plans, BGE worked closely with Georgetown officials and their utility coordination consultant. This helped streamline the process and avoid potential conflicts during construction.

Environmental considerations played a major role in the project. BGE’s environmental team evaluated the impact of installing the new pipeline and abandoning the existing one, which ran near a cemetery. Their review helped guide responsible decision-making and ensured compliance with environmental standards.

With Georgetown’s rapid development in mind, BGE also analyzed Atmos Energy’s gas system to assess flow capacity and determine whether upsizing or reinforcement was needed. This forward-looking approach helped ensure that the relocated infrastructure would continue to serve the community reliably for years to come.
