BGE Shines at the 2024 Association of Water Board Directors (AWBD) Annual Conference

BGE demonstrated its leadership and commitment to the water and wastewater industry at the 2024 AWBD Annual Conference, with several team members actively participating and receiving honors.

Our very own Keli Schroeder, PE, Practice Lead District Services, was awarded the prestigious 2024 Visions Award.

This accolade, presented by the AWBD Board of Directors, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to AWBD, its members, and the broader water and wastewater industry. Over the past 29 years, the Visions Award has celebrated exceptional service and dedication, and we are proud of Keli for her well-deserved recognition!

Larry Goldberg, PE, ENV SP, FASCE, Technical Advisor, was re-elected to the AWBD Board of Trustees.

He will serve as 2nd Vice President. Congratulations to Larry!

BGE’s Alene Frey, PE, District Services Manager, delivered an insightful presentation, “Integrating a Community Park from Concept to Reality.”

She and her fellow presenters discussed the Harris County MUD 71’s Stephen Woodring Park project, covering everything from planning and design to construction and ongoing maintenance. Alene highlighted the MUD’s goals for the park, design considerations, parking lot expansion, low-impact design strategies, and the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her presentation emphasized the importance of stakeholder communication and the lessons learned throughout the project.

AWBD also recognized its Emerging Leaders Class of 2024, which includes Nelson Gaez, PE, Senior Project Manager, Land Development.

The Emerging Leaders Program is dedicated to developing the next generation of Water Board Directors and Consultants, focusing on leadership, industry knowledge, and a commitment to community service. Nelson’s inclusion in this program underscores his dedication to the water industry and his potential as a future leader. Matt Froehlich, PE, ENV SP, Director is on the planning committee for the Emerging Leaders Program and helped present Nelson his graduation certificate.

BGE is proud of our team’s accomplishments and ongoing contributions to the water and wastewater industry. Their active involvement in AWBD reflects our commitment to excellence and innovation in serving our communities.
