Houston, TX – We’re pleased to welcome Kallista Karastamatis, RPA, as a Principal Investigator to our Environmental Services team. Kallista brings a strong background in bioarcheology, historical archaeology, and cultural resources management, with extensive experience supporting and leading projects across Texas, the southeastern United States, and the Caribbean.
Before joining BGE, Kallista served as a Senior Project Archaeologist and later Principal Investigator at Pape-Dawson, where she managed complex archaeological survey, monitoring, cemetery scraping, and mitigation efforts for a wide range of public and private sector clients. Her previous experience includes research and field roles with the Shumla Research and Education Center, the Center for Archaeological Studies at Texas State University, Cultural Resources Analysts, Inc., and multiple Caribbean-based archaeological projects.
Kallista has authored and co-authored numerous cultural resources reports across Texas, including investigations in Bexar, Comal, DeWitt, Fort Bend, Grayson, and Real counties. Her academic contributions include conference presentations at the Society for American Archaeology, Society for Historical Archaeology, and other professional forums, with research grounded in African Diaspora studies, paleopathology, and mortuary archaeology.
Earning her Master of Arts in Archaeology from Texas State University, graduating Suma Cum Laude, and her Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude in Anthropology, emphasizing forensics and human rights with an Honors concentration from the University of Tennessee, Kallista is a registered Professional Archaeologist and an active member of the Council of Texas Archaeologists and the Texas Archaeological Society.
Her technical strengths include osteological analysis, cemetery documentation, ArcPro proficiency, project management, regulatory compliance, QA/QC review, and the development of archaeological research designs and mitigation strategies. She is also deeply committed to ethical practice, social justice, and meaningful collaboration with descendant communities.
