BGE Looks to Expand Marine Business With Addition of Professional Engineer

HOUSTON (August 2, 2017) –  Adding to its growing list of qualified professionals, BGE announced today the addition of William Bohlen, PE, who will focus on the company’s expanding private and public sector marine business as the marine practice leader.

Bohlen brings 22 years of experience to the role, including projects such as piers, wharves, and bulkheads. He also has engineering experience in bridges and roads. He joins BGE professionals Gary Myers, PE, director of transportation systems, and Suzanne Crawford, PE, senior project manager, each a veteran of successful public and private marine projects along the Gulf Coast.

“Very few engineering firms in Houston have engineers of the caliber of these three professionals,” said Dave Johnston, PE, BGE senior vice president. “We are looking to aggressively grow our marine department over the next few years and are excited to have Will on board to help with that growth.”

Bohlen earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. Prior to joining BGE, he worked on both national and international projects, including more than 20 in Port Freeport and Port of Houston, Texas, as well as the Port of Lake Charles, Louisiana. On one project, an existing wharf settled and rotated during construction, making the structure unsafe. Bohlen acted as the remediation project’s construction manager to stabilize and repair the wharf so it could be opened.

He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Deep Foundations Institute, where he participates in the marine foundations and drilled shaft committees. One of the projects he managed earned the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Gold Medal Award in 2008 for meeting and exceeding the client’s needs for a bridge project in Kent, Washington. He has contributed to five papers for the ASCE Ports Conferences, on topics including the design of new wharves, rehabilitation and remediation of existing wharves, and construction management.
